Modifying cardiovascular risk factors can slow the progression or onset of disease. Cardiovascular risk assessment and proactive therapies are important steps in maintaining a healthy heart. Clinical research involves new medications or techniques to prevent or modify known risk factors for heart disease, such as diabetes, smoking, obesity, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Also inlcudes: identification of new cardiac risk factors and understanding the genetics of atherosclerosis and premature cardiovascular disease.
