Why is this study being done?
|This study is being conducted at the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh VA hospitals and PinnacleHealth in Harrisburg to determine if the elimination of drug copayments and an educational computer program can improve blood pressure control.|
Who is eligible to participate in this study?
|The only participants who are eligible for this study are those individuals:
- who are 21 yrs of age and older
- who are outpatients in the primary care clinics at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, VA Pittsburgh Health System and PinnacleHealth in Harrisburg, PA
- who have a diagnosis of hypertension
- who have taken medication for high blood pressure within the last year
What is involved with this study?
|Patients who consent to participate in this study will have their blood pressure and weight measured. Patient will also need to complete a questionnaire about their health history. Patients may also be asked to view a computer program.|
How long will this study run?
|Participation includes 5 visits in the course of one year with each visit lasting approximately ½ to 1 ½ hrs.|
