Why is this study being done?
            
The purpose of this study is to evaluate new risk factors related to heart disease in persons and families with type II diabetes.

Who is eligible to participate in this study?
            Inclusion
Subjects diagnosed with type II diabetes with no symptoms of heart disease (no heart attacks, strokes, mini stokes, etc) and their family members.

What is involved with this study?
            
Subjects will undergo several different tests performed on two occasions approximately two years apart. A brief history and physical exam, blood and urine tests, resting EKG, and the Electron Beam CT (EBCT) will be performed. EBCT is a non-invasive technique that measures a mount of calcification or plaque build up in the heart arteries. Subjects will receive copies of their test results.

How long will this study run?
            
The study consists of two office visits approximately two years apart. Each visit will take up to three hours or less.
