Why is this study being done? |
| The purpose of this study is to evaluate new risk factors related to heart disease in persons and families with type II diabetes. |

Who is eligible to participate in this study? |
Inclusion | Subjects diagnosed with type II diabetes with no symptoms of heart disease (no heart attacks, strokes, mini stokes, etc) and their family members. |

What is involved with this study? |
| Subjects will undergo several different tests performed on two occasions approximately two years apart. A brief history and physical exam, blood and urine tests, resting EKG, and the Electron Beam CT (EBCT) will be performed. EBCT is a non-invasive technique that measures a mount of calcification or plaque build up in the heart arteries. Subjects will receive copies of their test results. |

How long will this study run? |
| The study consists of two office visits approximately two years apart. Each visit will take up to three hours or less. |
